Three men indicted in the death of Ahmaud Arbery

The three men have been indicted by a grand jury, in the February 23 shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery.

Glynn County’s Grand Jury indicted Travis McMichael, his father, Greg McMichael, and William R. Bryan on malice and felony murder charges in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery.

This was made known by Cobb District Attorney Joyette M. Holmes at a press conference.

“We will continue to be intentional in the pursuit of justice for this family and the community at large as the prosecution of this case continues,” said Holmes, the specially appointed prosecutor in the case.

Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man, was killed on February 23 when Greg and Travis McMichael, a white father and son, armed themselves and pursued the 25-year-old as he ran through their neighborhood.

He died from three shotgun wounds, two of them to the chest during a clash with Travis McMichael.

The charges against Travis McMichael, his father, Greg McMichael, and William R. Bryan also include aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment, according to the indictment.

Holmes also confirmed that Arbery’s family was notified about the indictment of the trio.

Greg McMichael told police he suspected Mr. Arbery was a burglar and that he attacked his son before being shot.

The third suspect, William “Roddie” Bryan Jr. was arrested with the warrant alleging he tried ‘to confine and detain’ Mr. Arbery without legal authority by ‘utilizing his vehicle on multiple occasions’ before the victim was shot.
