Several Fc Barcelona Officials Arrested After Police Raid Camp Nou Offices

Catalan police have reportedly arrested a number of FC Barcelona officials following a raid at the club’s Camp Nou stadium.

Police entered Camp Nou today (March 1) in a search and seize operation reportedly related to last year’s ‘barcagate’ scandal, in which club officials were accused of hiring a social media company to launch a smear campaign against current and former players who were critical of the club and then-president Bartomeu.

The club confirmed authorities from Mossos d’Esquadra were at the team’s headquarters this morning, with Catalan police later announcing several arrests had been made but did not comment on the identities of those detained.

According to multiple sources including Cadena SER radio, Barca’s former president Josep Maria Bartomeu, current chief executive Òscar Grau and Barcelona’s head of legal services Román Gómez Pontí were arrested on suspicion of “unfair administration, corruption between individuals and money laundering.”

Bartomeu’s former advisor Jaume Masferrer was also reportedly detained.

The raid comes just before presidential elections are set to be held, with more than 20,000 Barcelona members already casting their vote for the three candidates: Victor Font, Joan Laporta and Toni Freia.
