Full Details Why Bill Cosby Was Released From Prison After Court Overturns Sexual Assault Conviction

Bill Cosby was released from prison on Wednesday after his sexual assault conviction was overturned by the Supreme Court.

Mr Cosby was able to have the decision overturned due to an agreement that he had with his previous prosecutor. There will be no retrial for this ruling.

Bill Cosby is currently 83 years old, and spent 3 years in prison out of the initial 10 he was sentenced to. Andrew Wyatt, who is a spokesperson for Cosby said: “We want to thank the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. This is what we have been fighting for and this is justice and justice for black America.”

In 2018, he was found guilty of drugging as well as molesting Andrea Constand, who is an ex-basketball player.

Whilst his abuse of Andrea is what got him convicted, he has had many other accusations of alleged abuse towards other women.

On this hot day – this is a hot verdict for us,” Mr Wyatt added.

“Mr Cosby has always used his celebrity and his name to uplift women… How could a man who is being watched by the FBI every day be raping and drugging women… especially a black man?”

The courts had a lengthy explanation as to why Mr Cosby was being released. The written report is 79 pages long.

“There is only one remedy that can completely restore Cosby to the status quo ante. He must be discharged, and any future prosecution on these particular charges must be barred”

“We do not dispute that this remedy is both severe and rare. But it is warranted here.”

Whilst many are outraged at Mr Cosby’s release, some feel that the right decision has been made. Phylicia Rashad, who played Bill’s wife in ‘The Cosby Show’ took to Twitter to express her happiness.“FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted- a miscarriage of justice is corrected!”

After a huge backlash, she had to disable replies to the tweet and followed up by clarifying that she “fully supports” sexual abuse survivors coming forward.

“I fully support survivors of sexual assault coming forward. My post was in no way intended to be insensitive to their truth. Personally, I know from friends and family that such abuse has lifelong residual effects. My heartfelt wish is for healing.”
